Kamikaze
Kamikaze
Bruce Miller President & Chief Executive Officer Favourite Burger Kamikaze
Bruce’s early career started out on the soccer field, where his life revolved around two simple rules:  If it moves, kick it. If it doesn’t move, kick it until it does.  But alas, Bruce gave up his dream of being the next David Beckham for a career filled with cat food, rice and booze.  Throughout his 15 year successful track record in the Hospitality, Consumer Packaged Goods and Sports Marketing industries, Bruce has delivered impressive results in both topline sales and bottom line profit.

After falling in love twice - once with his wife Becky and the second with The WORKS in Ottawa in 2003 after his first bite of a Kamikaze, Bruce became one of the owners of this great brand.  He is now the President aka The Big Cheese. He’s so busy; he claims the last movie he saw was Platoon.  Known as the guy who can sweet talk a shark and make corporate propaganda feel like folksy truthisms, Bruce spends his free time with his 3 young kids – McKayla, Spencer and Leah.

Sean Bell Chief Financial Officer Favourite Burger Man-O-War
Sean, a self-made thousandaire, is otherwise known as the one-man office comedy show, who keeps his fellow burgerheads in stitches and is man-enough to wear button-back jeans.  He is still waiting for the day when someone calls him “Sir” without following it up with “you’re making a scene”.  Sean started his career as a video game tester, but decided he wanted to get out of his parents basement and meet girls.  Of course, Finance was the answer!

With over 15 years of experience in the food & beverage industry as well as the financial sector, Sean is not only one of the owners, but he also leads both the Finance and Procurement functions at the WORKS  -  the combination of which, means we’re getting helluva good deals!  Sean is a passionate foodie, who fell in love with The WORKS, the moment he walked through the doors in Ottawa!  When he’s not negotiating, creating pivot tables or chowing down on burgs, Sean is hanging with his two awesome kids, Nolan, and Sophia (and sorry Sen's fans, Nolan's named after former Leaf Owen Nolan).

Wendy Spence Director of Marketing “Your Royal Highness” Favourite Burger Son of a Beech Wendy's Deets wendys@worksburger.com
Wendy, previously known by her Indian Princess name of “Too Many Stilettos” now goes by the name of “Queen Poutine” (although she will answer to “Your Royal Highness”).  Her love for food, fashion and football is overshadowed by her love of Poutine.  While Poutine is her beloved  indulgence, she is also a raving burger fanatic who’s favourite burger is the Son of a Beech, partly due to her love of Beechhouse sauce and the other part because she loves to say “Son of a Beech”.

Wendy spent the first 12 years of her career on the advertising agency side.  Following the ad gig, Wendy spent the next five years leading the marketing initiatives of a national quick-service restaurant before joining The WORKS.  Now Wendy is the “crayons” behind the Marketing efforts at The WORKS, primarily focusing on the Marketing Communications plans, LTO’s, Menu Development, PR, and Social Media initiatives.  When she puts the crayons at work away, she pulls them out again at home, where she enjoys drawing & painting (and conducting impromptu focus groups) with her three young kids – Michael, Lizzie & Charlotte.

Sean Rutherford Senior Business Consultant Favourite Burger Hamburger Mary Sean's Deets seanr@worksburger.com
As the oldest Burgerhead in age (not in attitude), Sean a.k.a. “Senior” has been in the restaurant biz for over 30 years.  His nickname is Top Bun, but he was not named after any food product (the urban legend is still circulating).  As a proven Hospitality Professional, “Senior” has owned and operated both independent and franchised restaurant concepts, which honed his skills as he moved to the Franchisor side of the business.  As the Senior Business Consultant at The WORKS, his leadership and coaching strengths, and “guest-first” attitude have resulted in the highest operational standards.

While not in the restaurant, Senior is on the ice, in the gym, on the racquetball court.  True to the legend, Sean loves being Brigitte's Husband and devoted Dad to his four great kids – two college age and two twin toddlers...Chelsea, Conor, Isabelle and Benjamin.

Shane Kennedy Corporate Chef Favourite Burger Gettin' Piggy with it Shane's Deets shanek@worksburger.com
Shane, an accomplished Chef and all around nice guy who’s been making the Snuggie look good since 2009, had a dream.   A very simple dream, mostly involving bacon and beer, but a dream nonetheless.  This dream has been realized as Corporate Chef for The WORKS, whose daily “to-do” list involves cooking with the three B’s – Burgs, Beer & Bacon.

As an experienced Red Seal Certified Chef with a culinary education from the Niagara Culinary Institute, Shane has worked through much of Southern Ontario’s culinary scene from casual to fine dining and restaurants to hotels, most recently with some of Canada’s top full-service restaurant chains.

When he’s not in The WORKS kitchens creating the next Burger Masterpiece, he’s cooking and baking at home or hanging out with friends.  He is well-known for his big laugh and ability to capture those embarrassing night out photos on his iPhone.

Chris Risdahl Business Consultant Favourite Burger SK8R Boy Chris's Deets chrisr@worksburger.com
Born at a very young age, the illegitimate lovechild of Charisma and Charm, Chris as a youngster had dreams of a career that included buckets of poutine on a daily basis and funny business cards. Chris’s most impressive skills include helping older ladies dance the night away, wowing audiences with his karaoke rendition of ‘Friends in Low Places’ and his innate ability to locate every coffee shop in a 1 mile radius. With over 20 years in the hospitality industry, (dating back to when a coffee actually cost 25 cents), ‎Chris has a knack when it comes to workin’ those computer thingy's and making pen and paper a thing of the past.  Chris makes the technical side of the biz, come to life inside our shops.

He prides himself on being a card-carrying member of the bald brotherhood and is described as a man of power and mystery. His power only eclipsed by his mystery.
