The Lowdown to Hull & Back News

low_down_web_small.jpg

The little rural newspaper that could, was started by Art and Kitty Mantell on their kitchen table in 1973, & their daughter Nikki took over as publisher in 1998. The newspaper is distributed every Wednesday to subscribers in the communities of Chelsea, La Peche, Wakefield, Cantley, Low, Kazabazua, Lac St. Marie, Denholm, and Danford Lake.

One cool fall day in October last year a stunningly beautiful (more to come on that) salesperson from this "often quoted, never toyed with" little gem of a local weekly came calling at Burger Central. Well she and all the staff who I came to know (more on that later) at the paper are real life characters!! Nikki stirs the pot and runs the newspaper with verve and her own millennium spin. Trevor reports and photographs anything that moves, naked or not!!

General Manager Liette is the calm glue - she could organize an aardvark, and probably has done so! Pam "oh Pam" (still more on that soon) will spread the adverts high & low yet always with the best of Hull and Back in her mind. It's a gem of a shortsheet that holds its own in the big old world of news and it's kinda near the capital. Oh ya, back to Pam. She is now my fabulous girlfriend, and is the most wonderful, loyal, kind, friend, mother and supporter of all things human that a person could have. Back to the paper. It lives & breathes on its own and is a treasure in the sea of editorial crap out there these days.

The Low Down has won numerous awards but never missed a deadline, and throws a hell of a Christmas bash! Thanks for including me Low Down. Edit that Nikki!!

Valberg Imaging

valberg.jpg I adore Michelle Valberg and her two very adept photographic partners, Valerie Keeler and Jennifer File. Whether it's for a fairy tale wedding, some real corporate portraits, a unique family gathering, that special 50th anniversary or just a dude looking for an amazing shot for the single website...they do it all and they do it extremely well. Photos are only half the deal...Michelle is also renowned for ehr African Safari images, stunning landscapes and vivid images from all over the world.

The girls are now focused on framingand large format printing on site, which makes Valberg Imaging a one-stop shop for all one's needs, from camera to hangin' on the wall. Ever since my personal wedding day photo nightmare "somewhere else" in Ottawa, I think it's all about personality and these three pro's have got it going!!

Fab Gear 64

fab64.jpg Fab 64 is all about Uncle Bob and his love of all things musical...and fun! That is why Bob Cabana and I get along so well. He's got the funkiest clothing, the most incredible collectables (gotta ask for the good stuff that's hidden), excellent old vinyl and a personality that could charm the skin off a python!!

Whether you need a Cooper Brothers compilation CD, a Jimi Hendrix t-shirt, the best Rock n' Roll stage wear around, a signed Beatles Guitar or just some hip Trailer Park Boys gear... Fab Gear 64 is the only gig in town and it's reasonable!!
